So finished his Bachelor and Master Programs in the Music Department, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, majoring in Pipa and Ethnomusicology. Later on, he took up the Teaching Assistant post in the same department. So taught in the Music Department, the University of Hong Kong, and the Academy for Performing Arts as well. In 2005, So obtained his Licentiate in Oboe Recital with Distinction from the Trinity College, London.

During 2007 to 2012, So, as an Assistant Music Officer in the Music Office (LCSD), has been tutoring Oboe classes, coaching and managing the Hong Kong Children Symphonic Band and the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra.

So has been conducting "TWGHs E Major Ensemble" since its inauguration in 2016.
